Caring for children at KIDSCO
includes paying attention to each child's particular
personality. This enables us to develop friendly connections
with children, spontaneously meeting their individual needs as they
arise.
We're mums as well. We know what we want
for our children! We've spent time exploring the behaviour and
developmental characteristics of each age group in our care,
and designed our programmes with these in
mind.
Attention is given to connecting children up
with friends and ensuring that they enjoy their time with
us.
The very best
place for your children is at home with you. If you have the
choice, then choose this. There is no one who can provide your
family values, your family culture, your family ideals and
aspirations as well as you do.
If you don't have
this choice then KIDSCO is the next best place to home. As
parents ourselves, whilst we cannot replace your input, we can
provide trained and vetted staff as role models. We can enable
your children to make good, healthy connections with caring
adults. We do
provide an environment where your children are free to choose
activities to their liking, play joyfully, make friends. We
will ensure that your child feels comfortable, safe and
happy. We will attend to their concerns and as much as
possible, to their desires.

When you're choosing after school
care programme for your children here's your
checklist!
-
Does the programme have specific strategies
for new school starters who need special attention?
At KIDSCO we know that small children need
extra attention. We recommend a minimum of 2 days enrolment to
enable them to make connections with staff and
friends. Children are buddied up with someone slightly
older who knows the programme well. We never have a shortage of
volunteers to look after new
starters!
-
How will you help my child to meet and make
friends?
At KIDSCO we pay attention to ensuring
that all children are connected up with friends and we'll actively
assist children to make friends.
-
Do your staff members understand my child's
specific needs at this stage of development?
At KIDSCO we've examined what the
research says and we've noted our own experiences to develop
programmes that meet children's needs at each developing stage: 5
& 6 year olds, 7 to 9 year olds and 10 & 11 year
olds.
-
Will you provide healthy food for my
child?
At KIDSCO we provide a mini-meal
(child size meal) daily with foods selected from the New Food
Pyramid. As this is not a key meal time, we don't plan to
provide a balanced meal which you will provide at home in the
evening.
What about homework? Do you have a homework
club?
One way that we can help to reduce
stress that working parents experience is to provide a quality
Homework Club. Parents are always delighted when children have
made good progress on their school homework and drilled basic
facts as well.
-
What about TV, video games, hand-held
electronic games: will my child be mixing with friends or in front
of screens all afternoon.
At KIDSCO we think that this is a
good time to avoid screens and encourage children into social
contact with others. Parents who use KIDSCO regularly
know that their children have enjoyed quality interactive time and
don't feel guilty about letting them have screen time at
home.
-
What safety measures do you have in place to
protect my child from food poisoning, serious accidents, strangers,
in the case of fire and civil defence emergencies, if my child is
missing?
At KIDSCO we have a Food Safety
Programme, Health and Safety Programme and Child Protection
Programme in operation. Because we live in Wellington we also have
robust Earthquake and Tsunami evacuation plans and provisions in
place.
-
I am sometimes held up at work or by traffic
issues and may be late. How can you help me if that happens?
At KIDSCO our plan is to be of service
to you. In emergencies or times when you are unavoidably
delayed call us and let us know your situation. We will do
what we can to assist you including waiting at the programme for
you to arrive, providing additional food for your children, contact
other authorised contacts if you
wish etc.
We look forward to discussing your
needs with you

As well as
measures taken for STOPOVER® we plan comprehensive,
theme-based Holiday Programmes:
Holiday time is downtime for kids. Time
to recharge the batteries after a busy term. But it's a long
day and you want to know your children are going to be well cared
for and engaged and happy so that you don't have to worry about
them. At KIDSCO we know what this feels like. Our
programmes are desiged and/or checked by experienced planners
who are also mums. We've had the same
worries as you do. Our staff focus on ensuring that all
children are engaged in fun activities and connecting with friends.
When you collect them they will be happy after a great day. We're
so confident in this that we guarantee it!

programme delivery model
It is KIDSCO® belief that
children engaged in "plain and simple play" learn about
cooperation, develop research skills, find solutions through
problem solving, and build on their self-esteem and confidence by
creating from scratch, games and objects that they can call their
own.
We strongly believe that children are
entitled to be treated with dignity and respect; that we are role
models, and that today's families benefit from greater community
cohesion achieved through community services that bring families
together.
Within a safe and caring environment we aim
to enhance the lives of children whilst guiding them in their
social development.
You'll find that we keep the needs of working
parents in mind with strategies specifically developed to lighten
some of the pressures at the end of the work day.
KIDSCO® aims to complement the many excellent education
services available in the community by enabling them to offer
exemplary 'out of school' services that they can proudly offer to
their parent group.
We all at KIDSCO® look
forward to meeting you and welcoming your children into our
programme.
Our programmes currently operate in
Wellington New Zealand.
